What do school fundraising and pigs have in common?
No, it’s not a lead-in to a joke. Strangely enough, pigs are making their own contribution to several school fundraisers around the country.
At Clover Ridge Elementary in Corvallis, Oregon, students competed to raise the most funds for deciding which teacher would have to kiss a pig. The story is accompanied by a cute photo of the winner kissing a three week-old piglet who actually looks kinda cute and cuddly!
Another fundraiser features Wilbur the pig who posed for the cover of the latest edition of the classic children’s book, Charlottes Web. Through guest appearances, he helped raise $5,000 for new children’s books.
In Longmont, Colorado, 13 year-old Emma Vickland is auctioning off her prize-winning pig to raise funds for two high-school wrestlers who were severely injured in a car crash.
In Eddyville Oregon, high school students are raising three pigs as a fundraiser for their senior class trip. After bestowing cute names like Wilbur, Pork Chop, and Schwartz on the little piggies, the students might regret parting to pay for partying sometime down the road.
Hopefully, they won’t end up as the star attraction at a school pig roast fundraiser like this one in the UK!
Here are some other great school fundraising ideas.
